This project highlights the ethical issues and implications in the use of Artificial Intelligence. Bias in machine learning occurs when the results of the research cannot be generalised widely, and it results from how the data is obtained and the choices that are made while training the data.

In this project we aimed to explore the correlation between input and output data and demonstrate how the selection process affects the accuracy of the results obtained from the machine learning algorithm. We collected and built our own data set.

Collaborative Project

Photographed 54 diverse students, faculty members, and staff at Pratt DDA Department with the same backdrop, light set up and camera position. After this we built our input dataset by duplicating and flipping the images.

The curated data was trained on StyleGAN in Runway.ML. After about 4 hours, the trained model generated 50 symmetrical images.

Overlayed the images generated by the model into 4 sets of images. To replicate the aesthetics of a convolutional neural network, we decided to print the generated output in a sheer fabric (organza) and hang them layer by layer.
